"When in doubt, go to the library." - J.K. Rowling
Summer Reading Program at the Coleman Public Library
Registration begins June 30th @ 2:00 p.m.
The “All Together Now”, theme is about friendship, kindness, sharing, fairness, helping others, and getting along.
Coleman Public Library is doing its part to help beat the “summer slide,” with a robust summer reading program that encourages kids to read over the summer. Educational, fun enrichment activities throughout the summer are an important feature of the program – and they’re free, making them accessible to the community.
The reading program is funded with a grant from the Coleman County Foundation, the Friends Annual Used Book Sale, and local donations. Sponsored by Friends of the Coleman Public Library, Texas State Library, and the Collaborative Summer Library Program.
Registration begins June 30th, 2:00 p.m. Programs are each Wednesday with Toddler & Pre-k, in the mornings at 10:00 am. Kindergarten, 1st, & 2nd grades 2:00 p.m. 3rd, 4th, & 5th starting at 3:30. Children will participate in stories, Page Turner Adventure, special guests, activities, and crafts each Wednesday. A live program with Joe McDermott, a children’s singer and songwriter on July 14th at 6:30 p.m. so the whole family can enjoy.
This will be the first year to participate in our new “READ & BEAD” program. Children read and record their minutes (or have a grown-up help them track time) then they turn those minutes into beads of varying colors, shapes, and designs to decorate and personalize their very own necklaces. Participants get three things and are then ready to start - 1 brag tag, 1 necklace, and 1 reading record sheet.
“We know how important it is for children to have access to books over the summer,” said Sue Dossey, Librarian. “That’s why we are committed to providing resources that make reading fun and exciting. Our goal is to help all children continue to make progress over the summer months and prevent any decline in reading achievement scores.”
